Humphrey’s Heroes FAQs
What is the age limit for the abseil?
Participants must be 16 or over on the event day to participate.
Is there a weight restriction?
Participants must be a minimum of 7 stone and a maximum of 20 stone to participate.
Is there anything else that could prevent me from abseiling?
You cannot take part in the event if you are pregnant. If you have a disability or health issue which could affect your ability to take part in the abseil please contact the Charity Team and we will be happy to discuss your requirements with the event organisers.
Can I choose what time I take part?
Slots for abseiling will be available on the afternoon of Saturday 23rd April and all day on Sunday 24th April. When registering participants will be asked to specify if they would prefer an AM or PM time slot. Your welcome email will confirm the time slot you have been allocated.
Can my friend and I abseil at the same time?
You can register more than one participant at a time so any participants registered together will be allocated time slots together or at adjacent times. Abseils take place on a rolling schedule therefore the time at which a rope becomes available to put someone over the edge varies. This means that we cannot guarantee that friends can descend at exactly the same time.
What should I wear?
It would be great if our superheroes come in costume but fancy dress is optional so if you’d prefer a children’s hospital t-shirt you can request this when registering. You’re going to be walking down the side of a building so wear good shoes. Well-fitting trainers, light hiking boots, or other soft soled shoes are recommended. No sandals, slip-on shoes, slippers, flip flops, high heels, or steel toed boots will be allowed. The harness goes around your legs, waist, and shoulders, so it is best to avoid anything too bulky. Long hair should be tied back. Capes will have to be approved by the Site Safety Supervisor for the main abseil. If you have a question about what alterations your costume will need, please email pictures of your costume prior to the event so our staff can check it out!
How long will the event take?
Please allow at least two hours from your registration time for you to complete training and your abseil.
Who will be training me and supervising my abseil?
The event is being run by professional abseiling experts Over the Edge. Their fully trained technicians will supervise all elements of the day to ensure your abseil is safe and enjoyable.
Do I have to raise the full £150 to participate?
Yes, as slots are limited on the event we are asking that all participants raise at least £150 for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity. This is just a minimum target therefore it would be fantastic if you can raise even more than this! We would ask that participants have raised minimum sponsorship by 23rd/24th April in order to take part.
What’s the best way to raise funds?
The easiest way to raise this money is to set up an online giving page and share this with friends, family and colleagues. This way all the money you raise is automatically sent to us and you don’t have to waste time collecting it in. You can set up and personalise your Humphrey Heroes online giving page here
What will my fundraising support?
If you have a personal connection to the hospital and would like your funds to support a specific ward or department then just let us know. If not, all money raised by our superheroes will support our Time Saves Lives appeal to build a primary helipad landing site at the hospital. To find out why this project is so important you can watch a short film here. Feel free to share this film with your sponsors to show them how their support will help.
